Division, west of Smithfield andknown as Powell Street, being a distance of 2 of a milePetition enclosed with this order For reference see Wilton M Pace, R #3,Smithfield, N CCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was carried8 Tax CollectorSubsequent to a discussion with Harper Godwin, Tax Collector, Commissioner J DBailey moved that a fee of 200 be authorized and established for serving notice ofattachment and garnishment against delinquent tax payers in the county, as provided byGeneral Statutes 105 -385, Section DCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr seconded the motion, which was carried9 Sale of 2 acres County Home PropertyMr Allen MacIntyre, Director of Engineering, University of North CarolinaTelevision, Chapel Hill, proposed that the county sell to the State of North Carolinaa parcel of land of 2 acres, or less, on the County Home Property, located on Highway# 210, approximately 5 miles southwest of Smithfield, for the purpose of building arelay station, in order to extend the educational program of Channel 4 W U N C T VSubsequent to a discussion of the need and location of lot, Commissioner Frank BHolding moved that Chairman H M Johnson, Four Oaks, and Commissioner Norman C Denning,Four Oaks # 1, be authorized and directed to work with Mr MacIntyre and make availableto the State 2 acres of land at the aforementioned site at a cost of not less than75000 per acreCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously carriedi10 Clerk Superior CourtCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that Mrs Nora P Southerland, Clerk of theSuperior Court, be complimented upon the fine appearance of her officeCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was carried11 Request to place Vending Machines in CourthouseE V Wilkins, Attorney, appeared with Rodrick Whitehurst blind, requesting that__Mr Whitehurst be granted the privilege of operating vending machines in the courthousebasement, as he was closing out his newspaper stand, which he found unprofitable248_ Auks_Commissioner JesseH Austin, Jr, moved that Rodrick Whitehurst be allowed toplace vending machines in the courthouse, subject to one of the Commissioners approvingthe location where they shall be installedCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion, which was carriedIn view of motion adopted allowing Rodrick Whitehurst vending machines in thecourthouse, Chairman H M Johnson appointed Commissioner Austin to select area wheremachines are to be installed12 J I LynchJ I Lynch, District Engineer, appeared before the Board to discuss any roadproblems confronting them, and reported that he would appear before the Board at theirnext regular meeting13 Request Johnston County Bar AssociationJames A Wellons, Jr and Harry E Canaday, Attorneys, representing the JohnstonCounty Bar Association, requested that in view of their having furnished the two roomsof the courthouse where the library is located that the Commissioners install airconditioning unit and also requested that they continue the telephone in the JudgesRoom, the former location of the libraryCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that the request be tabled CommissionerJ D Bailey seconded the motion, which was carriedlk Boarding HomeMrs Edith Park, Welfare Director, gave a report on the renovation of the BoardingHome two story building stating that the present plans and specifications of MrMcGee, Architect, met the approval of the State Welfare DepartmentMr Harry K McGee, Architect, reported that plans and specifications had beenprepared for the Boarding Home Building No 1 and the building would take care oftwenty 20 people and had met the approval of all state departments involved in therenovation and repairs of the buildingOrdered that Mr McGee proceed to advertise for bids for submission to the Board15 Agricultural BuildingCommissioner Norman C Denning moved that Harry K McGee proceed with plans andspecifications of the second phase of the Agricultural Building Auditorium and toadvertise for bids for submission to the BoardCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr seconded the motion, which was carried16 Acceptance of Site for Johnston County -
