members of the organization expressed the appreciation of the womenfor the action taken by the Board in making provisions for a new registration and theaddition of additional voting machines7 Request of 2 way radio systemM J Oliver, Fire Chief, Brogden Fire Department, and W J Broadwell, CivilDefense Director, acting as spokesmen for a group of approximately 2 firemen andinterested citizens presented the following request for funds to the Board, which wassigned by every Fire Chief of the Johnston County regular and volunteer Fire DepartmentsRequest for FundsTo H M Johnson, ChairmanMr J DBaileyMr Frank B HoldingMr Jesse AustinMr Norman DenningGentlemenWe, the undersigned members of the Johnston County Firemens Association, acting asrepresentatives of each of our local fire departments, do hereby make this request toyou for your consideration and respectfully request your approvalWe request that the Johnston Count Board of Commissioners appropriate funds in theamount of forty thousand dollars 40,000 for part payment of a two -way systeon,in-cluding base stations, mobile units, emergency power generators, fuel storage tanks,associated accessories and installations The above amount, or one -half of the lowbid price, will be equally matched by Civil Defense provided the standards are met forthis communications projectWe further request that five thousand dollars Johnson to amend General Statutes 18 -22 whichrelated primarily to the disposition by law enforcement officers of confiscated mater-ials in raids on liquor stills was referred to W R Britt, County Attorney, for hisassistance in drafting same10 Study of needs for additional fire departmentsCommissioner J D Bailey moved that before any more fire departments be acceptedthat the Fire Commission of Johnston County be requested to make a study of additionalfire departments needed to cover the County and report their findings to the Board attheir next regular meeting, in AprilCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion, which was adopted11 Pleasant Grove Fire DistrictA delegation of approximately sixteen citizens from Pleasant Grove Township re-quested the acceptance of a fire district for the townshipE T Evans, acting as spokesman for the group, pointed out that the communitywas cooperating in a fine spirit to secure a fire department Messrs Lloyd Stephenson,R F Coats, and Commissioner Norman C Denning made remarks favorable to adding thefire department to the Johnston County System, with the fire department building beinglocated by unanimous vote of the citizens of the TownsHp at Jake Campbellts FillingStationAfter a discussion, Commissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that the proposedPleasant Grove Fire Department be accepted by the County pending their conforming tothe minimum standards as established in a resolution adopted by the County on October 3,1955Commissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion, which was adopted12 Raymond Hood and Jesse ParrishThe request of Raymond Hood and Jesse Parrish for welfare assistance was referredto the Welfare Department13 Request for Erection Swine Production FacilityThe request of Daniel R Dixon, 90 Capital Club Building, Raleigh, North Carolina,and Bob Badgett, Raleigh, North Carolina, for the approval of the Commissioners ofJohnston County in the erection of a swine production facility in the county to be knownas the Tar Heel Swine Producers, Inc, which would prove advantageous to them ineliminating legal, brokerage fees, etc, was deferred pending investigation by W RBritt, County Attorney14 Road ProblemsJ I Lynch, District Engineer, State Highway Commission, made his bi- monthlyappearance before the Board to consult with them concerning road problems at handCommissioners Holding and Austin brought to his attention complaints coveringCherry Street, S R 1507, and drainage problem adjoining the Clyde Lipscomb farm inWilsons Mills TownshipRoad petitions on file were also discussed with Mr secondary and primary roads,And whereas, they realize the need and importance of additional highway arteriesin the continued agricultural and industrial growth of communities throughout thestate,Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of County Commissioners of JohnstonCounty go on record as approving appropriate legislation providing for a 200,000,000bond issue for the construction and improvement of secondary and primary roads underthe supervision of the State Highway Commission, and further approve the continuationof a 1¢ tax on gasoline,Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be sent to the HonorableAdam J Whitley, Jr, representing Johnston County in the North Carolina Senate, andto Honorable William RBritt, representing Johnston County in the House of
