144Meeti_nT of Board of_ Commissioners -for the Counter of JohnstonAugust 16, 1963The Board of Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in special session onAugust 16, 1963, in the Auditors Office, at 730 P M, with the following memberspresentH M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, Frank B Holding, Norman C Denning andJesse H Austin, JrAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Tax SupervisorCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the County Tax Supervisor be authorizedand directed hereafter to make up the tax records for the respective townships inJohnston County as provided in G S 105 -323, as amended by the 1963 Session LawsCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried2 Purchase Property Church StreetCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that the proposed purchase by the CountyBoard of Education of the Colonel Ed S Abell property on Church Street in Smithfield beapprovedCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried3 Damage to House Mss A H RoseCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that County Auditor W H Britt writeMr Roy C Coates concerning some damages to the house of Mrs A H Rose at the timeof moving in 1962, and determine if Mr Coates would accept responsibility for makingthe necessary repairsCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried4 Southern RailwaTie Board heard Mr C C Elder of the Southern Railway concerning the pendinglitigation in federal court about grain freight rates After a discussion by therespective members of the Board, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that the followingresolution be adoptedRESOLVED, that William R Britt, Attorney, be, and he is hereby authorized anddirected to perform any and all acts which in his judgment may be necessary or desirableto insure that the views of the County of Johnston, State of North Carolina, supportingthe position of Southern Railway System with respect to the transportation of graininto the Southeast in multiple car shipments, in accordance with tariffs now on filewith the Interstate Commerce Commission, are presented to the United States DistrictCourt at Cincinnati, Ohio, and any other court which may take jurisdiction in asimilar case, or on any appealCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion, which was unanimouslycarriedOn motion made, seconded and carried, it was moved that the meeting be adjournedZ?, ;Chairman
