the August 20th Report of the Grand Jury it was noted that the Negro sectionof the Johnston Lounty Jail was overcrowded as nineteen inmates were confined in onecellikereas only 12 beds were providedThe Honorable Judge Raymond B Mallard instructed the County Sheriff, Mr B AHenry to purchase as many beds as necessary so each prisoner confined in the Jailwould have a bed He also instructed the Foreman of the Grand Jury topick a committeeand check and see if these instructions were carried outOn August 22, 1962, we the Committee of the Grand Jury inspected said jail andfound that 10 new beds have been placed in this place of confinement We also question-ed the prisoners and they said there were beds for each of them We furthermore foundthe jail to be in a very good clean condition at
