32rMee ting_o£_ _Boar d _ of Commissioners for the County_ of _JohnstonSeptember 20, 1962A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was held in the County _Auditors Office at 830 P M, Thursday, September 20, 1962Members present as follows Henry M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, R GGurley, Floyd C Price, Sr, Frank B HoldingAbsent NorteThe meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mr Henry M JohnsonW H Britt, Auditor, was designated as acting clerk in the absence of W GMassey, ClerkA letter dated September 12, 1962 addressed to Mr Henry M Johnson, Chairman ofthe County Board of Commissioners, from Thomas L Upchurch, County Tax Collector,submitting his resignation, was presented and read to the BoardAfter careful consideration and much discussion by the Board, Mr Floyd C Price,Sr made a motion that Mr Upchurchs resignation be accepted, but that he be askedto remain in his position as Tax Collector until December 1, 1962, or until such timethat a competent and agreeable replacement be named At this point, Mr Upchurch wascontacted by Chairman Johnson by telephone and agreed to remain as suggested in themotionThe motion was seconded by Mr Gurley and unanimously carriedMr Johnson, Chairman, presented a copy of an order from the Chief Justice of theSupreme Court of North Carolina ordering a special terra of criminal court to be heldin Johnston County the week of October lath, the said copy to be filed with the Clerkof the BoardA motion to adjourn was made by Mr Price and seconded by Mr Gurley and theBoard adjournedAct `Clerki
