May 29, 19621 3Fit widthrMeeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of Johnston{ May 29, 1962The Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in specialsession on May 29, 19629 at 2 00 P M, in the Commissioners Room, for the purposeof hearing budget requests for the year 1962 -1963, with the following members presentH M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, Floyd C Price, Sr, R G Gurley andFrank B holdingAbsent NoneThe following business was transactedI Agricultural AgentUpon the recommendation of H M Johnson, Chairman, Commissioner Frank BHolding moved that the salary of Don Williamson, Assistant Agricultural Agent, beadjusted by increasing his monthly salary at the rate of 3333 per month, effectiveas of April 1, 1962Commissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was carried2 Commissioner Floyd C Price, Sr introduced the following resolution and movedthat it be adoptedRESOLUTION11hereas, after careful study of S 3213 and H R 11,583 introduced in the Senateand Souse of Representatives on MAY 3, 1962, whereby certain carriers would beexempt from minimum rate regulations in the transportation of bulk commodities,agricultural and fishery producs, passengers and for other purposes,And whereas, it appears that these two bills offer fair and impartial treatmentto common carriers and place them on a sound and competitive basis,Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of County Commissioners of JohnstonCounty, meeting in special session on May 29, 1962 do hereby endorse the provisionsas contained in S 3243 and H R 11,583 and recommend their passage by the UnitedStates CongressCommissioner R G Gurley seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried3• Board of EducationThe members of the Board of Education met with the members of the Board ofCounty Commissioners and discussed the revised school budget, which requested a levyof W for the 1962 -1963 budget, being a reduction of 5¢ from their request on May7, 1962 They were advised that their request would be given due consideration whenthe budget was finally determined4 Re- Wiring CourthouseBy request, Robert C Browning, Consulting Engineer, appeared before the Boardand discussed with them the re- wiring of the courthouse He estimated the re- wiringof the courthouse would cost approximately 12,000, and if the County wished toprovide 30 to 40 foot candles of lighting for the office areas that is the presentday recommendation the additional fluorescent fixtures and additional wiring wouldcost another 610,000, depending on the type fixture selectedMr Browning was requested to furnish an estimate of the coat of re- wiring eachfloor separately, beginning with the basement, for presentment to the Board by June4, 19625 Johnston County LibraryWallace Ashley, Jr, Trustee, and Mrs Willye Wright, acting Librarian, Johnston„County Library, presented the needs of the Johnston County LibraryA request was made by the Board that they furnish a complete breakdown of sal -aries of personnel in the library DepartmentAction was deferred pending further study6 Soil Conservation DepartmentMr Harold Needin, Chairman, D E S tancil, Vice -
