Board of Education has given careful consideration to the recommend-Iations which have been made The Board of Education has also discussed the recomm-endations with the citizens in all the school districts in the CountyAs a result of the careful study of the needs of the schools we are unanimousin our request that the Johnston County Board of Commissioners call for a school ibond referendum on Tuesday, November 7, in the amount of one million two hundred -fifty thousand dollars 1,250,00000 to accomplish the following needsfClayton High School - Eight classrooms, home economics department, science iroom, library, lunchroom, administrative space, storage space, and altera-tions to the heating plant, to complete new high school on new site,approximate cost, 4250,000 This construction was recommended in bothState Survey ReportsJohnston County Training ,School at Smithfield - A building program similarto that of Clayton above in order to complete the new high school on the newsite, approximate cost, 250,000 This construction was included in bothState Survey reportsSouth Smithfield Zlementary School - Twelve classrooms, toilets, storagespace, and extension to the heating plant, approximate cost, 175,000Recommended in first State Survey Report and also recommended in thesecond Survey Report, if Smithfield did not desire consolidationFour Oaks School - New Pymnasium, public schools for the nine months school termprescribed by lawTHEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Education of the Johnston CountySchool Administrative Unit as follows1 The Board of Education of Johnston County School Administrative Unithas ascertained and hereby determines that it is necessary to erectin the Johnston County School Administrative Unit several new buildingsto be used as school houses, school garages, physical education andvocational education buildings, teacherages and lunchrooms and otherschool plant facilities, and reconstruct and to enlarge, by theerection of additions, several existing buildings located in suchunit and used for such purposes, and to acquire land and furnishingsand equipment necessary for such new, or enlarged buildings, in orderto enable the County of Johnston, as an administrative agency of theschool system of the State of North Carolina, to maintain publicschools in the Johnston County School Administrative Unit for thenine months schoolplant facilities in the Johnston County School Administrative Unit are not adequatefor the maintenance of public schools for the 9 months school term prescribed bylaw, and has requested the Board of Commissioners to provide the sum of X1,250,000to finance additional school plant facilities such as are described in Section 1of the Bond { order and which said County Board of Education has determined arenecessary to enable the County of Johnston, as an administrative agency of thepublic school system of the State of North Carolina, to maintain public schoolsin the Johnston County School Sigmon of the SouthernRailway Company, Durham, N C, that the Board declined to take any action at thistime on his request pertaining to reduced freight rates on grain moving to thesouth20 Jiggs Broadwell petitioned for appropriate action for including the bombshelter in the basement of the proposed agricultural building, stating that it wasnecessary to get the prior approval of the OCDM on spread upon the minute book of the Johnston County Board ofCommissioners and that a copy be sent to the family of DrA ycockDr Berry Lester Aycock was a pointed to the Board of Trustees of JohnstonMemorial Hospital on October 8, 19 8, when the first Board of Trustees was establish-ed, was active in the planning and construction of Johnston Memorial Hospital, gavefreely of his time and talents in the same capacity continuously from his originalappointment until his illness shortly preceding his death His keen insight andconscientious service will be sorely missed and have meant much to the Hospitaland to the County of Johnston through the yearsDr Aycock was a lifelong resident of Johnston County, born in Selma onMarch 6, 1889, a son of the late Berry Lawrence and Sarah Jane Barnes Aycock ofJohnston County During his career he had been a farmer, a musician, a telegraphoperator, a soldier in World War I, and finally a dentist He was educated in theJohnston County public school in Princeton, at Mars Hill Junior College, and atAtlanta Dental College, where he graduated in 1913, the same year that he openedan office for the practice of dentistry in Princeton He continued his practicein Princeton until his retirement some years ago except for the interruptionoccasioned by his Army serviceOn September 11, 1919, Dr Aycock married the former Myrtle Massey Edwardsof zrineeton, who survives him with one daughter, Mrs J S D Nelson, and twograndchildrenDr B L Aycock lived an exemplary life of friendliness and kindness whichendeared him to a host of friends and acquaintances Not only was he a credit tohis profession but was also an active and public- spirited citizen of his communityand state as well as an active and devoted churchman He was a member of PrincetonMethodist Church where he taught a mans Bible Class and served for many years onthe official board He was a past master of Saint Patricks Lodge of the MasonicOrder, was a charter member of the Princeton Lions Club, was a member of theJohnstonCounty Medical Society, the Fifth District Dental Society, the NorthCarolina Dental Society, and was a life member of the American Dental
