September 8, 19591 4Fit width, the County of Johnston,?eeting of Board of Commissioners forSeptember 8, 1959The Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County met in regular sessionon September 8, 1959, at 11;00 A M, in the Commissioners Room, with the followingmembers present;H M Johnson, Chairman, Floyd C Price, Sr, J D Bailey, R G Gurley, andFrank B HoldingAbsent- NoneThe following business was transacted;1 Upon the recommendation of J L George, County Attorney, who stated thatafter thorough investigation he deemed Johnston County Welfare Department liableto Harnett County for the maintenance and care of the Malcolm Geddie children since,;in his opinion, Johnston County was the legal residence in 1958 of said GeddieCommissioner J D Bailey moved that W H Britt, Auditor, be authorized anddirected to pay to Harnett County the sum of 140126, from the Boarding Home Carefor Children appropriations, representing Johnston CountyPs proportionate shareof the maintenance of the nine Geddie children from February 10, 1959 throughAugust 31, 1959•Commissioner Floyd C Price, Sr seconded the motion, which was adopted2 After Sheriff 3 A Henry explained the expense involved in conveying personsto state institutions, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that the SheriffsDepartment be paid 500 in lieu of 195 for each trip made in conveying personscommitted to state institutions where the amount has been collected by the Clerkof the Superior Court in accordance with instructions of the Board adopted onJuly 6, 1959•Commissioner Floyd C Price, Sr seconded the motion, which was adopted3 Subsequent to a request of Mrs Nora P Southerland, Clerk of the SuperiorCourt, J D Bailey moved that Mrs Nora P Southerland, Clerk of the SuperiorCourt, be authorized to employ a competent bookkeeper at a salary up to 27500per month, with the county making the proper allocation to that department whenthe bookkeeper is employed and salary determinedCommissioner R G Gurley seconded the motion, which was adopted4 Whereas, it has been determined and represented by Rhetta Jiartin, Tax Attorney,that the taxes for the years 1928 and 1929 were paid on January 24, 1949 coveringone lot in OnealsTownship, foreclosed in the name of Joe L WhitleyNow therefore, in order to clear title to said lot, Commissioner J D Baileymoved that a quit -claim deed be made to Mrs Alice P Hatcher, present owner of said lot, conveying one lot in Oneals Township, foreclosed in the name of Joe L Whitley,F R # 2, page 424, and that Rhetta Martin, Tax Attorney, be directed to make theproper entry on the foreclosure recordCommissioner Floyd C rice, Sr seconded the motion, which was unanimouslyadopted5 Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that the State Highway Commission berequested to provide a cross -over on Highway 301 opposite the middle drive of thePineview Motel, which is located north of Kenly in Beulah TownshipCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously adoptedPetition and sketch enclosed with this order For reference see W G Rose,Kenly, N C, F #3•6 Commissioner R G Gurley moved that the State Highway Commission be requestedto extend service road from the ahallcross plant to the Selma -Pine Level Highway,it being an extension of that service road which runs from Highway 70 -ACommissioner Floyd C rice, Sr seconded the motion, which was unanimouslyadopted7 Commissioner R G Gurley moved that the following resolution be adopted;CHANGE IN COUNTY ROADWHEREAS, the State Highway Commission has filed with the Board of Commissionersof the County of Johnston a map designated as Project 824166 showing a proposedrelocation of a section of county road; and it appearing to the Board that the Fifty -TwoTen Fire Department, Inc has complied with the provisions of resolution providingfor the establishment of fire districts in Johnston County, which was duly adoptedby the Board of County Commissioners on October 3, 1955; has met the minimumrequirement for personnel and equipment required b said resolution, and is receiv-ing financial assistance from the County, and the Tifty -Two Ten Community FireDepartment District Area having been fixed and established by metes and bounds,and duly submitted to the County Board of Commissioners for approval;Now, therefore, be it resolved that the boundaries of the Fifty -Two TenCommunity Fire Department District Area to be served by the Fifty -Two Ten FireDepartment Inc be officially designed and fixed as follows337September 3, 1959 ContFIFTY -TWO TEN COXYUNITY FIRE DEPARTtENT DISTRICTBeginning at a point 1 on Highway # 210 at Berea Church;
