306Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonpJune 22, 1959 {yThe Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in special Csession on June 22, 1959, at 800 P M, in the Auditors Office, courthouse,with the following members present;H M Johnson, Chairman, R G Gurley, JD Bailey, Floyd CPrice, Sr andFrank B HoldingAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Mrs Nora P Southerland, Clerk of the Superior Court, informed the Boardthat she was seeking a bookkeeper for her office to replace an employee receiving19500 per month, who was resigning within a few days to accept another position,and requested that the Board supplement the present salary in an amount in excessof 27500 per month, in order for her to secure a competent bookkeeper She wasadvised by the Board that they wculd take this matter under advisement2 After conferring with Dr W E Thornton, of Goldsboro, North Carolina,Commissioner R G Gurley moved that Johnston County purchase lot and building onthe east side of the courthouse, known as the Thornton Building, from Dr W EThornton, of Goldsboro, N C, at a purchaso price of 447,00000, transfer effectiveJuly 1, 1959•Commissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously adopted3 In accordance with the request of Dr W E Thornton, Commissioner R G Gurleymoved that the tenants now occupying the Thornton Building be given from July 1,1959 sixty 60 days or for a longer period of time if circumstances warrant with-in the discretion of the Board in which to vacate their respective officesCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion, which was unanimouslyadopted4 W H Britt, Auditor, presented revised budget figures on the salaries of DrE S Grady, Health Officer, and others in his department with the net appropriat-ion remaining the same, in order that they could meet the requirements of themerit system, which is mandatory if they continue their work with the countyFollowing a discussion, it was the concensus of opinion that no action betaken on this revision, and that the budget of that department remain as wasadopted by the Board on June 11, 1959There being no further business, the meeting was recessed to meet on Viednesday }July 1, 1959, at 900 A M for the purpose of adopting the 1959 -60 budget
