205Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonMay 7, 1958The Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in specialsession on May 7, 1958, at 1000 A M, in the Register of Deeds office, withthe following members presentH M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, Floyd C Price, Sr, R G Gurley,and Frank B HoldingAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Upon the recommendation of the Trustees of Bentonville Memorial CommunityCenter, the following motion was adoptedOn a motion made by R G Gurley, seconded by Frank B Holding, it was movedthat Mr J Lorman Flowers, Jr be appointed a Trustee of the Bentonville MemorialCommunity Center for a term of six years, effective as of April 3, 1956, succeedingMr John J Langston, deceased; and that Mrs Norwood Smith and Mr Leslie Willifordbe reappointed Trustees of the Bentonville Memorial Community Center for a term ofsix years, effective as of April 3, 19582 on a motion made by R G Gurley, seconded by Frank B Holding, it was movedthat the State Highway Commission be requested to add to the Johnston County RoadSystem and maintain that certain road in Smithfield Township, described as follows - -IBeginning on Highway # 301 West and runs approximately 900 feet to a dead endstreet, known as the Edgerton sub - division road, and being a distance of 900 feetin lengthPetition and map enclosed with this order For reference see Rev J H Hudson,Route # 3, Smithfield, N C3 On a motion made by R G Gurley, seconded by Floyd C Price, Sr, it was movedthat the following motion be adoptedR G Gurley moved that the following resolution be adoptedWHEREAS, the Local Government Commission of North Carolina has informed theBoard of Commissioners that it has sold, in the manner prescribed by law, the0500,000 School Building Bonds of the County of Johnston, dated May 1, 1958, author-ized to be issued by a bond order adopted by the Board of Commissioners on the 7thday of October, 1957, and that the contract of sale contemplates that said bondsshall bear interest as hereinafter provided; NOW, THEREFORE-,BE IT RESOLVED that said bonds shall bear interest as follows 1 the bondsnumbered from 1 to 165, inclusive, at the rate of 2 34 per annum, 2 the bondsnumber from 166 to 210, inclusive, at the rate of 2 112, per annum and 3 the bondsnumbered from 211 to 500, inclusive, at the rate of 2 34 per annumFloyd C Price, Sr seconded the motion, and the motion was adopted Thosevoting for the resolution were Messrs J D Bailey, Floyd C Price, Sr, R GGurley, and Frank B MoldingNo one voted against it4 Mr E P Koonce, Division Engineer, State Highway Commission presentedSecondary Road Plan, General Betterment 1957 -58, Johnston County, consisting ofseventeen 17 projects measuring 354 miles to be graded, drained and STBC at anestimated cost of 0106,520, and Secondary Road Plan, General Betterment 1958 -59,Johnston County, consisting of eight 8 projects, measuring 167 miles to bepaved at an estimated cost of 138,000Maps were filed outlining the aforementioned projects, which were covered byMr KoonceCommissioner R G Gurley moved that the State Highway Commission SecondaryRoad Program for Johnston County for the years 1957 -58 and 1958 -59 as presented byE P Koonce, Division Engineer, State Highway Commission, be approvedCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which was unanimously adoptedThere being no further business,the meeting was recessed, subject to callC n
