September 19, 1957jThe Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in specialsession on September 19, 1957, in the Commissioners Room, at 9 30 A M, with thefollowing members presentij H M Johnson, Chairman, JD Bailey, R GGurley, Floyd C Price, Sr, andFrank B HoldingAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 After a discussion with Lloyd Gilbert, Administrator of the Johnston MemorialHospital, in which the Board was advised by Mr Gilbert that there were at thepresent time no state funds available for air conditioning the present hospital,and that if the present hospital were air conditioned the county would have toparticipate in all probability on a 50 matching basis, the following motion wasadoptedOn a motion made by R G Gurley, seconded by Floyd C Price, Sr, thefollowing resolution was adopted,jNR E S O L U T I O NWhereas, R E Earp and Hubert Massengill, members of the Board of TrusteesJohnston Memorial Hospital, and representing the Board of Trustees Johnston Memorial;Hospital, and Lloyd Gilbert, Administrator, have requested the Board of CountyCommissioners of Johnston County to approve application to the North CarolinaMedical Care Commission for participation in any state and federal funds availablefor the purpose of air conditioning the present Johnston Memorial Hospital atSmithfield, North CarolinaNow therefore, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of JohnstonCounty1 That the Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County hereby requestthat the North Carolina Medical Care Commission participate in air conditioningthe present Johnston Memorial Hospital, Smithfield, North Carolina to the extentof available funds2 That the Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County hereby statethat funds will be available for the countys pro rate share of this project3 That the Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County hereby invitethe North CaraHna Medical Care Commission and its staff to visit the site and workwith the Board of Trustees in an effort to determine their needs estimating thecost and make necessary plans to air condition the existing building2 After a discussion with T L Upchurch, Tax Collector, the following motionwas adoptedOn a motion made by J D Bailey, seconded by Frank B Holding, it was movedthat T L Upchurch, Tax Collector, be authorized and directed to employ twoadditional field deputies for the purpose of assisting in the collection of delin-quent taxes for a period of six weeks at a salary accosdng to the amount paidspecial field deputies employed last yearThere being no further business, the meeting was adjournedhai n
