transacted;1 The following resolution and agreement were adoptedRESOLUTION FOR COUNTIES, CITIES, TOWNS, BOARDS OF ALCOHOLIC CONTROLAND OTHER PUBLIC AGENCIES MAKING APPLICATION FOR COVERAGE OF POLICE-MEN AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS UNDER THE OLD -AGE AND SURVIVORSINSURANCE PROVISIONS OF TITLE II OF THE FEDERAL SOCIAL SECURITY ACTWHEREAS, Section 218 of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act has beenamended for the purpose of extending to the policemen and other law enforcementofficers of political subdivisions of the State and tYr it instrumentalities, andto the dependents and survivors of such employees, the basic protection affordedto general employees by the Old -Age and Survivors Insurance program as embodiedin the Social Security Act, andWHEREAS, the governing Board of this political subdivision has already extend-ed such coverage to other employees by agreement with the Executive Secretary ofthe Teachers, and State Employeest R?firlgjent System, whose title is Director ofthe North Carolina Public Employeest ecurity Agency, as the State Agency authorized to enter into agreements for the purpose of extending such benefits to employees ofsuch political subdivisions, andWHEREAS, the governing authority of this political subdivision of the Statedesires to extend to its eligible policemen, other law enforcement officers andtheir dependents and survivors the security, protection and benefits provided forother employees, andWHEREAS, the extension of such benefits has been approved by a referendum asprovided by law NOW THEREFORE,Be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Johnston County inrecessed meeting, a quorum being present1 That the governing authority of this political subdivision of the State,to the extent of its lawful authority and power, does hereby extend to its eligi-ble policemen or other law enforcement officers the benefits authorized by TitleII of the Federal Social Security Act, as amended, and as authorized by Article 2of Chapter 135 of the General Statutes of North Carolina as amended Such coveragewill be effective July 1, 1957•2 That R P Holding, Chairman, is hereby fully empowered and authorized,and is hereby ordered and directed, to prepare, with the cooperation of the Directorof the North Carolina Public Employeest Social Security Agency, a suitable agree-ment or coverage plan as provided by law, the same to be properly executed in behalfof this Board and approved by said Director of the State Agency for the purpose ofmaking available to such employees the benefits mentioned in Paragraph I and thepreamble of this ResolutionUpon motion of H M Johnson and seconded by R G Gurley, the above Resolutionwas introduced for passage and the same was duly passed, the following TITLE II OF THE FEDERAL SOCIALSECURITY ACTNORTH CAROLINAJohnston CountyTHIS AGREEiVIENT made and entered into on this the 10 day of June, 1957, by andbetween Johnston County, hereinafter referred to as the Political Subdivision, theparty of the first part, and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Teachersand State Employeest Retirement System, hereinafter referred to as the State Agency,the party of the second partWITNESSETHThat the Political Subdivision, by virtue of the power and authority conferred 128IJune 10, 1957 Contupon it by its charter, by Chapter 160 of the General Statutes of North Carolina,as amended, or by virtue of Chapter 153 of the General Statutes of North Carolina,as amended, and by virtue of Article 2 of Chapter 135 of the General Statutes ofNorth Carolina, as amended, for the purpose of extending to the policemen or otherlaw enforcement officers of political subdivisions the basic protection afforded byOld -Age and Survivors Insurance System embodied in the Social Security Act, hasagreed with the State Agency for the purpose of establishing the plan as followsi1 It is agreed that the State Agency is hereby authorized to include thisPolitical Subdivision with respect to policemen or other law enforcement officersin any Original Agreement, or any modification thereof, entered into between theState of North Carolina and the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare of theUnited States pursuant to Section 218 of the Social Security Act and Article 2of Chapter 135 of the General Statutes, as amended, and any other North Carolinaenabling legislation2 It is agreed between this Political Subdivision and the State Agency thatthe Agreement of December 3, 1951, is hereby amended to include these serviceseffective July 1, 1957IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the Political Subdivision, by virtue of its authority asprovided by law and by virtue of a resolution or order duly passed by the governingauthority of said Political Subdivision, a certified copy of which resolution ororder is hereto attached, has caused these presents to be executed in its behalfby its Chairman or presiding Officer, whose signature appears below, and attestedby its Clerk or Secretary, whose signature appears below and furtherIN WITNESS WHEREOF, the State Agency has caused this Agreement to be signedby the Secretary of the Teachers and State
