adopted Vq1On a motion made by R G Gurley, seconded by H M Johnson, it was moved that jthe proposed agricultural fair be exempt from resolution of the Board banningcarnivals from showing in the Supervisor of the Board Home and to represent theBoard at the meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Johnston County Library forthe months of July, August and September3 After a discussion with L P Creech, Veterans Service Officer, it was theconcensus of the Board that his mileage should be fixed at 6d per mileIq Jiggs Broadwell, Civil Defense Director, gave a verbal account of his activit-ies of the Civil Defense program and outlined the part Johnston County would playin the Civil Defense Operation Alert plan for 1957, which would attempt to bringa successful and efficient plan of preparedness and protection to all citizens ofthe county5 W H Britt, Auditor, presented two proposals of the Otis Elevator Companyfor repairing the elevator, namely one for 60600 which would cover installingnew hoisting cable and governor The other proposal in the amount of 465200would cover the entire installation of new equipment for the elevator Theseproposals were referred to the Buildings and Grounds committee6 The following recommendation signed by the jurors serving inthe second June1957 term of Court was submitted This resolution was deferred for further consid-erationNorth Carolina, Johnston CountyWe the undersigned Jurors chosen and having served at the Second June 1957Term, hereby respectfully petition the Board of County Commissioners of JohnstonCounty, to, as soon as is practicable, air condition the courtroom of our Countyfor the convenience of hundreds of persons who are required to attend Court, theefficiency of the Courts proceedings in being able to hear without interruptionthe testimony of witnesses and the improvement that would result therefrom inallowing the Jurors, Judge and Court officials to hear and understand what is takplace in the courtroom We have experienced this week a great need fcr thisimprovement and we feel that the Countys money cannot be spent in a manner thatwould affect more people than in attendance upon the Court and other publicgatherings that are held in our courthouse We have learned that all offices inthe courthouse, with very few exceptions, are already air conditioned and we feelthe courtroom is equally as important to the citizens of our County7 The following reports were filedT LUpchurchTax CollectorJ DPegramSuperintendent Welfare DepartmentLeroyJohnsonNegro County AgentC WTarltonCounty AgentL
