r,,????•December 5, 1994The Johnston County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing at the 50-210 Fire Station, 52Greenleaf Road, Angier, NC off NC Hwy 50 south of McGees Crossroads on December 5, 1994, at 7 oclockpmwith the following members presentPresent Norman C Denning, Chairman, John M Booker, Vice Chairman, Cecil M Massengill andCookie PopeAbsent James W Cash, Jerry F Wood, and Eleanor N CreechAlso Present Richard B Self, County Manager, and Joyce H Ennis, Clerk to the BoardThe Chairman called the meeting to order and the following business was transacted1 Public Hearing - Expansion of the 50-210 Fire DistrictAdvertised Friday, Nov 28, 1994 in The Smithfield HeraldThe Chairman opened the public hearing and invited anyone who wished to address the Board on aproposal to expand the 50-210 Service District to include an unserved area adjacent to the Wake County LineCounty Manager, Richard B Self, explained the proposed expansion would include future plans for asubstation to cut down on response time for those citizens and insurance coverage rates for the propertyowners in the annexed areaDewayne West, Emergency Management Director and Fire Marshall, showed a map of the existing WestJohnston and 50-210 fire districts, and pointed out the unserved area adjacent to the Wake County line Heexplained that traditionally, fire and insurance districts have been concurrent, however, a small portion of thisarea, known as Penny Place located next to West Johnston, would remain in the West Johnston Fire District,but be part of the 50-210 Insurance District50-210 Fire Chief, Jim Parrish, explained the two districts have worked together on this proposal andare in complete agreement In response to questions from citizens in the audience, Mr Parrish explained thenew substation, which would be built within the next two years, would be located somewhere in the center ofthe new area and would be manned by those firemen living closest to that area Discussion followed and ChiefParrish and West Johnston Fire Chief, Jimmy Wilkins, answered general questions from those attending thehearingMark Knox, resident of Beechwood Hill Subdivision and one of the original petitioners for service in theunserved area, thanked the chiefs and asked the Board for their support of this proposalChairman Norman C Denning asked for a show of hands of those in favor of the expansion of the 50-210fire district to incorporate the unserved area There was a unanimous show of support Chairman Denningstated the Board of Commissioners would vote on the matter at their regular meeting in January If approved,taxes would be levied beginning July 1, 1995 He explained the 50-210 fire district commissioners recommenda district tax rate to the Board each year depending on their needsCommissioners John MBooker, Cecil M Massengill and Cookie Pope each expressed their appreciationof the volunteer firemen and the fine job they doThere being no further comments, the Chairman closed the public hearingNorman C Denning, ChairmanJoyce H Ennis, Clerk
