June 9, 1997645 AMRecessed Regular SessionThe Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in recessed regular session Monday, June 9, 1997,at 645 oclock pm in the Commissioners Room, Johnston County Courthouse Annex, Smithfield, NorthCarolina, with the following membersPresent Norman C Denning, Chairman, James W Cash, Vice Chairman, Jerry F Wood,DDS, Eleanor N Creech, Cookie Pope, Thomas M Moore and James H Langdon, JrAbsent NoneAlso Present Richard B Self, County Manager, and Joyce H Ennis, Clerk to the BoardThe Chairman called the meeting to order and the following business was transactedIa Courtroom SecuritySuperior Court Judge, Knox Jenkins, addressed the Board concerning courtroom security He noted,in his opinion, it is only a matter of time before security measures become a mandate by the State of NCHe recently met with District Attorney, Tom Lock, Sheriff Freddy Narron, and Clerk of Court, WillCrocker to discuss the problem They agreed that Johnston County should go ahead and take the necessarymeasures to provide the needed security before the State mandates this He introduced Michael Tuckerof Risk Management Associates who recently did a study on security needs for Wake County As a resultof the study, Wake has installed a new security system Judge Jenkins stressed that the County has amoral responsibility to protect its citizens and employees from injury in the CourthouseMichael Tucker stated his organization, for a fee of 10,000 would do a security survey forJohnston County and make recommendations for a security systemFollowing further discussion, the Board agreed to consider this carefully and make a decision bynext week2a Appointment of ETJ Member to Smithfield Board of AdjustmentUpon a motion by Commissioner Thomas M Moore, seconded by Commissioner Eleanor N Creechand carried by unanimous vote, the Board appointed T Ruffin Johnson as ETJ member of the SmithfieldBoard of AdjustmentsThere being no further comments, Commissioner Cookie Pope moved the Board again recess theirregular June 2, 1997 meeting until 700 pm on June 16, 1997 Commissioner James H Langdon, Jrseconded the motion, which carried by unanimous voteDetailsAnnotationsEntry PropertiesModified11192013 21531 PMCreated3282003 70014 AMTemplateMinutesFieldsMinutes - TypeRecessedMinutes - Date691997Book20
