Celebrate Smithfield Includes Tuscarora storytellers, performers at Johnston County Museum

The Johnston County Museum will host singers, dancers, and storytellers from the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina as part of the Celebrate Smithfield International Culture Festival on Saturday, March 15th. The event will begin at 11 am and conclude at 4 pm.

“We are honored to have this opportunity to share our rich history and culture with the people of Johnston County,” said Tuscarora elder Robert Chavis of Red Springs. “This is part of the land our people called home for hundreds of years. This land is part of who we are.”

The dance troupe will perform between 1:30 and 2:30. Storytelling and informal discussions will take place at other times throughout the day.

This is a free public event. The museum is located at 329 E. Market Street in Downtown Smithfield. For more information, call the Johnston County Museum at 919-938-5912, or visit www.jcheritagecenter.org.
