Johnston County Emergency Services: Johnston County EMS Cadet Program
Johnston County EMS launched this program on July 1st, 2013. Through the years Johnston County EMS is committed to mentoring and providing education, training, and leadership to young men and women in a dynamic system filled with data, research, and technology.
If you are considering a career in EMS or the medical field this is the program for you. This fast paced, energized program is motivating and full of opportunities to work alongside EMS crews, Fire Departments, and Law Enforcement that are driven by our mission to provide excellent care and quality service.
During your time in this program you will experience EMS in real time. You will work alongside EMS crews that respond to 911 emergencies, you will also be involved in active learning and assisting in patient care in the back of the ambulance. In addition to your time on a EMS unit, you will have interactive, classroom, hands on training. This program provides the foundation to jump start and plan your future.
Academy
Academy begins in the fall of each year. Cadets must attend every Sunday from 3pm-6pm for the assigned month. There is a maximum number of 20 cadets allowed in the program. Cadets are also required to attend meetings on specialized topics, these topics will be posted in advance. Uniforms are provided courtesy of Johnston County EMS.
Applying your skills!
Johnston County EMS Cadet Program offers the opportunity to show off your skills. Each year a team of cadets travel to compete in a competition with others from around the state.
Commitment for the future
After completion of the Cadet Academy. Johnston County EMS will pay for your tuition so that you can earn your EMT certification. This is another way we are committed to your success.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled in accredited home school program or high school and maintain a C average.
- Applicant and parents must attend orientation meeting.
- Complete three shifts riding on a EMS unit as an observer.
- Complete Johnston County EMS Cadet Academy.
- After completing Cadet Academy member must schedule a minimum of 12 hours a month.
