Johnston County Social Services Launches New Kiosk to Improve Customer Experience and Reduce Wait Times

For Immediate Release:  July 23, 2025

Smithfield, NC –  Johnston County Social Services has introduced a new self-service kiosk aimed at making case managment faster and more convenient. Residents now have the ability to scan and submit important documents and manage their cases without having to wait in line.

Located inside the Social Services office, the kiosk allows individuals to scan paperwork directly to their assigned caseworker or case team. This eliminates the need to wait in line at the front window or rely on the drop box outside the building. The new system reduces document processing times by several days and helps speed up services for residents.

“Our goal is to make it easier for residents to interact with us and receive the help they need without unnecessary delays,” said Johnston County Social Services Director Christine Dowdell. “The kiosk is already helping shorten wait times and improve the overall experience for the people we serve.”

As part of a broader effort to modernize service delivery, Social Services plans to install additional kiosks in other public-facing County locations, ensuring even more residents have access to quicker, more efficient service.

To help guide residents through the new system, the department has also introduced a Customer Navigator. This dedicated staff member will be stationed near the kiosk and available to answer questions and provide hands-on support.

“We’re committed to removing barriers and improving service access for everyone in Johnston County,” emphasized Mrs. Dowdell. “This is just one of many steps we’re taking to make that happen.”
