Beat the Heat - Cooling Locations

Due to excessive heat, individuals seeking a place to cool off can visit any of these locations:

• Johnston County Courthouse

  • Address: 207 E Johnston St., Smithfield, NC 27577

  • Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)

• Johnston County Public Library

  • Address: 305 E Market St., Smithfield, NC 27577

  • Hours: Weekdays 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

• Salvation Army

  • Address: 306 N Brightleaf Blvd, Smithfield, NC 27577

  • Hours: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, Sundays 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM

• Street Reach of Johnston County

  • Address: 202 S Fourth St, Smithfield, NC 27577

  • Hours: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

 

Beat the Heat Tips

It’s best to limit your time outdoors as much as possible, especially those sensitive to heat. If you cannot limit your time outdoors:

• Take Frequent Breaks
• Stay Hydrated
• Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing
• Consider shifting outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day
• Never leave anyone (including pets) in a closed vehicle
